i grew up between homestead and islamorada so this corner of the map is the one im watching like a hawk. rockstar actually do the legwork on this stuff, they send people out, they photograph everything, theyve had architecture firms on the books before now. so what i reckon we get is a squashed version of the real drive rather than a made up one.
south beach to key largo is about an hour and a half in a car in real life, and thats roughly where the mainland gives up and the keys begin, same as it looks on that map. obviously they cant have you sat driving for 90 minutes, but it has to read as a long way. downtown with the grid and the crowds, out onto the highway, then farmland, then two lane bridges with water on both sides, stilt houses, bungalows, sunrises you can sit and watch off a lump of sand. get that transition right and its the best drive theyve ever built
